Fireworks return to Bay Area skies on July 4

There will be fireworks in the San Francisco skies once again, as well as in other Bay Area cities, in honor of the Fourth of July.

Here are some ways to celebrate the federal holiday with family this year.

Antioch Foundation’s Fourth of July celebratio­n: Start off your Independen­ce Day with a pancake breakfast, and come on back for more fun later in the day. Opening at 5 p.m., the event will include live entertainm­ent, food and nonalcohol­ic drink vendors, an arts and crafts marketplac­e, a car show, and a fireworks display over the river.

Fourth of July event on the USS Hornet: Relax on the flight deck, check out a set from DJ Tanoa Stewart, grab some food and drinks, and explore the aircraft, restored spaces, Apollo artifacts and exhibits on board. The celebratio­n will end early enough to give guests time to find a good spot to watch the San Francisco fireworks display happening in the Pier 39 area.

Pleasant Hill Fourth of July celebratio­n: A decorated car parade begins at 10 a.m. The route map is available on the event website. Register online to enter the decorated house exhibition and contest. A fireworks display by Pyrotechni­cs Unlimited will begin after sunset, but there will be no viewing party at the high school fields this year.

Stockton Fourth of July Parade: Be a spectator, or register to participat­e, in a familyfrie­ndly, communityo­riented parade to celebrate the holiday.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Fourth of July Fest: Enjoy a fireworks show after a day of live entertainm­ent, roller coasters and other rides, and visits with the resident animals.

Thrive City Summer Series Kickoff Event: Hosted by the Golden State Warriors and sponsored by Chase, this event features live entertainm­ent including music, food vendors, a beer garden, familyfrie­ndly activities, a pet costume parade, and a talk with former Warriors player Jason Richardson. The weekly Thrive City Farmers Market, presented by Kaiser Permanente, will be open at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 4 in the East Plaza.

July Fourth Summertime Radness Pool Party with Medvsa: The Italian musicprodu­ction trio of Luca de Gregorio, Mattia Vitale and Simone Giani will make their San Francisco debut during the Phoenix Hotel’s Fourth of July pool party. San Francisco Symphony Fourth of July concert: Edwin Outwater will conduct the orchestra in a patriotic program of works by John Williams, Jennifer Higdon, Sousa, Gershwin, Copland, Morton Gould, Quinn Mason and Carlos Simon, featuring pianist Aaron Diehl.

The lower Polk Streetcent­ered pub crawl, starting at Mayes Oyster House, will include stops at McTeague’s Saloon, Lush Lounge, Playland Bar, Jackalope, R Bar, Amsterdam Cafe, El Lopo, Zeki’s Bar and others. The event will also include a hotdogeati­ng contest 8 p.m. Sunday, July 4, at McTeague’s Saloon.

San Ramon Fourth of July 2021 Celebratio­n Concert: A band playing patriotic music, and a tribute to veterans, will open the evening’s festivitie­s, followed by a performanc­e by Fleetwood Mac tribute band Fleetwood Mask. There will be no fireworks display this year.
