-

Dr. Jason Soifer died July 14, 2021 at age 91. He was born in New York City. He attended Syracuse University and then medical school in Amsterdam. Jason also served as a Captain in the U.S. Army as Chef du Dispensaire in Paris for The Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe for five years. He lived most of his life in San Francisco where he worked as an anesthesiologist. Above all, Jason was a citizen of the world. He loved to travel and spoke Italian, French, and Dutch - all with a Brooklyn accent. With a booming voice to match his outgoing personality, keen intellect and open heart, Jason made friends of different ages and walks of life from all around the world. Passionate about the arts, Jason lived for the opera, classical music and theatre. He attended his first opera at the age of eight with his grandfather at The Metropolitan Opera. Jason is survived by brother Edgar Soifer, niece Sharon Fleisher (aka Kelsang Gewang), nephews Jeffrey Fleisher and John Soifer, and grand-niece Mia Suzanne Fleisher-de Kozan. Jason will be sorely missed by his adopted family Sarah Billinghurst Solomon, Rebecca Culley, and Alistair and Athena Lee, to whom he was their beloved “Boompa”, as well as by many around the world who considered him family.

Upon his request, there will be no memorial service but a celebration of his life at his favorite local restaurant, where we will all raise a glass of Prosecco and eat oysters in his honor. Donations can be made in memory of Jason to either the Soifer Endowed Scholarship for Drama or the Soifer Endowed Fund for International Music Opportunities at Syracuse University. Donations may be made online at givetosu. syr.edu/jasonsoifer or sent to Syracuse University, 640 Skytop Road, 2nd Floor, Syracuse, NY 13244.
