Toni Newhoff

May 1, 1937 - July 14, 2021

Antoinette “Toni” Riordan Newhoff, 84, of Whidbey Island, WA and Moraga, CA passed away on July 14, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Toni was born in Brockton, MA, the daughter of the late John and Ann Riordan and sister of the late Sally Bowker of Hopkinton, MA. Toni had a ready smile and true New England sense of humor, always enjoying a good laugh. Toni had an adventurous spirit throughout her life. After graduating from Regis College in Waltham, MA, Toni ventured from Boston to Bakersfield, CA to open a Catholic grammar school and teach. In 1961 she met the love of her life, Jim Newhoff, and they recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

She was the loving mother of four children Ann, John, Mary and David; all who loved her dearly. She was devoted to her family and faith, sharing her gifts with all who knew her. Living with MS for many years, Toni didn’t let that stop her. She enjoyed trips to Europe, visits to family back East and cherished her times on Whidbey Island with family and friends. She enjoyed music, watching the hummingbirds and was famous for her Norwegian coffee cake.

After raising her children, Toni and Jim started a family commodity brokerage business where Toni managed the office while Jim was calling on customers. Her granddaughters were a source of great joy to her. She loved nothing more than hearing their stories, playing games with them and sharing in their happiness. Toni will be greatly missed and is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Matt Shanahan; son, John Newhoff; daughter, Mary Newhoff; son and daughter-in-law, David and Tni Newhoff; granddaughters: Kelley Shanahan, Katie McHugh, Charlie Newhoff and Coco Newhoff; sister, Susan Reynolds; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 26, at 11am, St. Hubert’s Church, Langley, WA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the St. Anthony’s Kitchen c/o St. Hubert’s Church, Langley, WA; St. Anthony’s Soup Kitchen - St. Hubert Catholic Church (sthubertchurch.org).
