Janet Veatch died July 12th, 2021, four years after a diagnosis of triplenegative breast cancer. Despite the challenges of her advancing disease, she fought bravely with the help of her close friends and family, the tireless efforts of her UCSF healthcare providers, and her in-home care companions. True to the spirit she showed throughout her life, Janet remained strong, courageous, and independent until she passed. Janet was predeceased by her parents (Alma Kremer and Russell Jordan), cousin (Dale Jordan), aunt (Dottie Hale), and her loving husband (Wayne Veatch Jr.). She is survived by her sons, Will of New Orleans and C.J. (Emily) of Portland, nieces Lisa Jordan Jankowski (Andy) and Amy Jordan Dinwiddie (Will) of Indianapolis, brother William Jordan (Karen Fitch Leiendecker-Jordan) of Indianapolis, and nine grand nieces and nephews. Janet was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Alma (nee Crooker) and Russell Jordan. She attended the University of Evansville, then earned her master’s degree in Nursing at the University of Washington. While attending UW and working as a pediatric nurse at University Hospital, she met Wayne Veatch Jr. They enjoyed water skiing on Lake Washington, snow skiing in the Cascades, and traveling the Olympic Peninsula together. Janet and Wayne moved to Sydney, Australia, and married there on Janet’s birthday in 1970. Janet and Wayne lived for nearly two years in Sydney and one and a half years in Melbourne, where they made many life-long friends before moving to San Francisco where Wayne attended UC Hastings College of the Law.

Janet and Wayne lived in San Francisco for over four decades. Among many other endeavors, Janet worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pediatric Oncology at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). She was extraordinarily dedicated to her patients and their families, remaining a steadfast beacon of hope in their darkest moments. Janet could always be relied upon to nurse, to love, and to support those who needed her.

A celebration of life will be held for family and friends on Sunday, September 12th, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the SSF Elks Club, 920 Stonegate Dr, SSF, CA 94080. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Janet’s name to Family House, which serves as a home away from home for families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
