A retired teacher, coach and Sports and Recreation Coordinato­r at Peninsula Jewish Community Center died unexpected­ly on July 23, 2021 at the age of 70 while resting at home in Lincoln, Ca.

John is survived by his wife Cynthia, son Casey, siblings Donna, Lynn, Mike, and Bob, several nieces and nephews and many life-long friends. He is preceded in death by his brother Gary. John was born in San Francisco on May 26th 1951 to George and Marie Gradwohl. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Daly City. His talent on the football field eventually earned him a football scholarshi­p and he became a Whitworth College Pirate in Spokane Washington. John’s life-long passion was coaching youth and HS sports including his son Casey’s teams. He spent over 40 years coaching HS football up and down the SF peninsula. In 2018 he was inducted into the Pacifica Sports Hall of Fame. John was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He lived an incredibly active life. In his younger years John enjoyed playing football, water polo, baseball, softball, basketball, and rugby. He loved attending sporting events especially baseball and watching his son and nieces and nephews compete in sports. He played in Bocce leagues, fantasy baseball and football leagues with this family and friends. John loved to travel the world with his loving wife Cynthia and their many friends. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who knew him.

A Celebratio­n of Life was held in his honor at the Peninsula Jewish Community Center in Foster City on August 7th.
