Janet died peacefully at Sunrise Petaluma with her daughter Janet Dyer by her side, one month short of her 93rd birthday. Janet grew up in San Francisco, where she attended Washington High School, meeting her lifelong friend and eventual sister-in-law Donna (Gunthorp) Cave, whose death preceded hers this past November. She went on to study at San Jose State, where she was an active member of the Sigma Kappa sorority and graduated with a BA in art. Janet was an accomplish­ed seamstress, artist, cook, teacher, and world traveler.

In 1962 she was widowed with two young daughters and returned to school, obtaining her Teaching Credential from San Francisco State. She lived briefly in San Rafael before moving to Petaluma in 1968. She began teaching both Art and Home Economics in the Novato Unified School District, where she continued teaching for 17 years, first at San Jose Middle School and then San Marin High School. In 1969, she met the love of her life, Paul C. Mobley. They married in 1970, merging their two families of three boys and three girls. Following retirement, Janet was an active member of the Marin and Sonoma Retired Teachers Associatio­ns and was an especially vital member of several Mac users groups in Sonoma County as an editor and writer. She traveled most of the world with Paul throughout their loving 34year marriage until his death in 2004. Her eldest stepson, John, passed away in 2011.

Janet leaves behind her two daughters Anne Gunthorp Harris (Tony) and Janet Dyer (David Neumann), grandchild­ren Chris and Robert Atkinson, Liz and Eric Dyer, in addition to her beloved stepchildr­en Theda Payne (Lee), Arthur Mobley (Heather), and Doug Mobley (Carolyn), step-grandchild­ren Trevor and Miranda Payne, Ian, Katie, and Zoe Mobley, and 5 great-grandchild­ren.
