Leon Kelsey Jones, 83 years of life, San Francisco and Galt, California, entered peacefully into rest August 5th, 2021 after a long rehabilita­tion stay in Walnut Creek, California.

Leon was born in Shreveport Louisiana, September 16, 1937 to James and Loretta (AKA Luretta) Survine Jones. He was the youngest of two children.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents James and Loretta (AKA Luretta) Survine Jones and brother James Weldon Jones. He worked for many years in his father’s grocery store business, Weldons’ Market, in San Francisco at the corner of Sutter St and Laguna Street before going to Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee and graduating in March 1964, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administra­tion.

His formal education includes attending Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco in 1959 and he also attended San Francisco City College.

He retired from United Airlines in South San Francisco after thirty-eight years of service in 2004. He was the owner and operator of Weldon’s Market and Deli at Sutter and Fillmore Streets in San Francisco for many, many years.

Married Frances Evaetter Pye-Jones, from Nashville, Tennessee in December 1965, whom he met while both were attending Tennessee State University and shared many years together until his passing on August 5th, 2021. To this Union no children were born, but they were blessed to share their lives with family, and numerous nieces, and nephews. Hobbies were fishing and reading business, political, history, autobiogra­phies, and sports material. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his beloved, Frances Pye-Jones, brother-in-laws, Andrew (Dorothy) Pye, and William Pye, niece Suzette Gough (Cort Phelps), first cousin, Jodia (Richard) McLeod, first cousin, Walter (Pat) George and nieces and nephews, close friends, Chester Beverly, Freddie Powell, Clee and Richard Lane.
