Yolanda “Lonnie” (Dollosso) Fugate

-

column into a majestic and inspiring 250 word essay. Needless to say, Lonnie believed in hard work and keeping busy!

Lonnie was lady of wise counsel, and was often sought out by neighbors, friends, family and fellow volunteers. She offered all her wisdom. A prodigious reader, Lonnie often would be found curled up with a book or two (her favorite authors included William Shakespeare and Pearl S. Buck). Her Scrabble matches were legendary. In their retirement years, after carefully saving, Lonnie and Milt traveled the world, and enjoyed learning about different cultures. She marveled at having had the opportunity to walk on the Great Wall of China, ride camels at the Egyptian Pyramids, peruse the artwork of the Hermitage, the Louvre, and the British Museums. A woman of deep and quiet faith, she often said that her greatest trip was to the eternal city, Roma, where at St. Peters Basilica she offered heartfelt prayers for all. Her travels to Italy and France to see her first cousins were the basis for amazing and oft told stories, especially about her Great Aunt Assunta, cousin Gilberto and cousin Luigi. Yolanda leaves behind a proud and well raised family; daughter Barbara Fugate, of San Francisco; son Stephen Fugate, daughterin-law Claire MibachFugate of Edmonds, WA; Grandson Nicholas (Jessica) and Great-Grandson Logan Fugate of Edmonds, WA. She is also survived by her brother David (Nidia), and many nieces and nephews. Her husband Milt passed away in 1999. Because of Yolanda’s 36 years of volunteer work at Nazareth House, she knew she had found a second home there for her last seven active years.

At Naz. she won the best Halloween Costume prize three years running (we think that the prolific candy distribution may have helped). She spent her days with old and new friends alike in the caring embrace of the dedicated staff and Good Sisters of the Nazareth House. Due to Naz. closure, she spent her last six months with AEGIS’s compassionate staff in South S.F.

Yolanda’s life was well lived, her journey continues, Rest well in God’s love.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:30 am. Luncheon to follow.
