Richard “Dick” Hoedt was a third-generation San Franciscan. He passed on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, surrounded by his family at the age of 91. Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, of 62 years and survived by his children Patty Hornbecker (Tim), Rich Hoedt Jr. (former daughter-in-law Patty), Terry Azofeifa (John), and Steve Hoedt (Lisa). Dick is the proud grandfathe­r of 13 grandchild­ren and 11 greatgrand­children.

Dick started school at St. Cecilia’s, continued through high school at St. Ignatius (‘48), then Santa Clara University, where he began their water polo team in 1950. He attended UOP Dental School in SF and served as a Navy dentist for three years (‘55–’58). Dick was a second-generation dentist practicing at 450 Sutter St. for 36 years. Dick was a passionate golfer and handball player at The Olympic Club, where he was a member for 79 years. Dick served as a board member at The Olympic Club (‘91-’93), SF Dental Society, and CA Dental Associatio­n.

He is the owner of 3 ‘holes in one’ and holds the record for playing 91 holes in one day at The Olympic Club with his son (Steve & friend Richard Alvarez). Dick and Nancy loved to travel the world with close friends, often playing golf, never missing a cocktail hour. Their favorite destinatio­ns with family were Lake Tahoe, Alisal, and Mauna Kea.
