Margeree Young of San Francisco, California died peacefully in her home on August 5, 2021. She was 98 years young. Margeree was born May 29, 1923 in Tallullah, Louisiana to Lucy and Ryal Wilson. Also born to this union was her sister, Mary McFarland and her brother, Ryal Wilson, Jr. On September 14th, 1946, she married her lifelong companion, Sammie Young, who has proceeded her in death along with her siblings and parents. They made their home and started their family in San Francisco, California. They had three children, Lois, Toni, and Sammie Jr.

She was inspired to become a healer while caring for her mother, Mama Lucy. She set her sights on a medical career. To began her journey, she enrolled at Marina Adult School, in its first class of Practical Nurse Education, graduating on April 20, 1951. Working as a practical nurse, she soon realized it was not enough for her. Hearing of the new Licensed Vocational Nurse program, she applied and received her certificat­ion as a Licensed Vocational Nurse on January 2,1953.

To continue her educationa­l goals she obtained her high school diploma from Benjamin Franklin Adult High School on June 23, 1954. Once graduating she joined the nursing staff at San Francisco General Hospital, as a vocational nurse. As she excelled in her work she was encouraged to become a Registered Nurse and enrolled in the first class for registered nurse training at San Francisco City College. She graduated on May 15, 1970, receiving her state Registered Nurse certificat­e on July 31,1970. She continued to work at San Francisco General where she eventually became Assistant Director of Nurses. After a career spanning 31 years, She retired on August 29, 1982. She then began a new journey of healing. Blue Run Baptist Church in Minden, Louisiana was the start of Margeree’s christian journey. Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in San Francisco, California was her next stop where she served as the Secretary for many years. She then moved her membership to Paradise Baptist Church, also located in San Francisco. While serving at Paradise Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher, an intimate passion for God’s word formed within her.

She began to attend the Fellowship Bible Institute in San Francisco in 1978 and took bible courses with the Californa Baptist Congress of Christian Education. She studied God’s word intently. From this passion came a focus to teach God’s word to children. To prepare herself for this task, she took many creative classes to illustrate God’s message to children. She also became a biblical resource to adults, family, and friends. Additional­ly, she also served as a representa­tive to many state and national convention­s and conference­s for her church, Paradise Baptist. Margeree Young lived a full life as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmothe­r, greatgrand­mother, aunt, friend, and nurse. She traveled all over the world and encountere­d different people who loved and respected her along the way. However, if she was writing this she would want it to be known above all her accomplish­ments and adventures her love for God, the study and teaching of His word was her prized legacy. Margeree Young fought a good fight, she kept the faith. She was ready to go to her promised home. She will be missed but would tell you that she is where she wants to be.

Margeree Young is survived by daughters, Lois Kincy, Antoinette Maria Stewart, spouse Ronald Stewart, son, Sammie Young, Jr., spouse Yvonne Young; Grandchild­ren, Dathan Ephraim, Marissa Maria Jones, spouse Marcus Deon Jones, Dwayne Maurice Lee, spouse Tressie Lee; Courtney Clemons, and Samantha Young. Great grandchild­ren Kristy Bell, Jason Sipai, Dathan Cornelius Ephraim, Jr., Jasmine Nicole Ephraim, Desiree Mariah Jones, Marcus Deon Jones, Jr., Aowyn Jewel Lee, Tauriel Antoinette Lee, Khylee Shania Jones, and Isaiah Lopez. She also leaves to mourn nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, friends; and her lifelong friend, Alberta Tolliver.
