Padres rout Astros, who lose Alvarez

Manny Machado, Wil Myers and Fernando Tatis Jr. each hit an impressive two-run homer, and Joe Musgrove had a solid outing against one of his former teams as the host San Diego Padres beat the AL Westleadin­g Houston Astros 10-2 on Saturday.

Tatis, who slugged his NL-leading 37th homer, also hit a go-ahead, tworun single during the four-run second inning for the Padres.

The Astros’ Yordan Alvarez injured himself when he hit a foul ball off his left leg in the fifth inning. He collapsed and had to leave the game.

Charlie Blackmon homered for the third straight game, Raimel Tapia had a go-ahead sacrifice fly and host Colorado hung on.

Kyle Seager hit two three-run homers and J.P. Crawford added four hits and two RBIs for visiting Seattle.

Shohei Ohtani hit his majors-leading 43rd home run and Jose Suarez pitched a five-hitter for host Los Angeles.

Brewers 4, Cardinals 0:

Adrian Houser pitched his first pro shutout, throwing a threehitte­r that led host Milwaukee over St. Louis. Houser (8-6) didn’t allow a runner until Nolan Arenado led off the fifth inning with a single.

Lane Thomas and Alcides Escobar homered as host Washington won 4-3 in the nightcap of a doublehead­er to end a a seven-game skid. In the opener, the Mets got a two-run homer from Francisco Lindor in the ninth inning to win 11-9 after blowing a nine-run lead.

Pedro Severino hit a tie-breaking sacrifice fly off New York closer Aroldis Chapman with the bases loaded in the ninth inning for visiting Baltimore, which carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning.

Rookie Frank Schwindel hustled hard and dove into first base for an RBI single that capped a three-run rally with two outs in the ninth inning for host Chicago. Schwindel, who was with the A’s for a few games earlier this summer, had three hits, including a solo home run. He has five homers in his past six games and 10 this season.

Yandy Diaz hit one of Tampa Bay’s franchise record-tying six homers and drove in four runs, and rookie Wander Franco extended his on-base streak to 34 games for the host Rays.

Alex Verdugo hit an RBI single with bases loaded and two outs in the ninth for host Boston. Verdugo’s hit over Daniel Johnson’s head in right field spoiled a rally by Cleveland, which tied it with three runs in the top of the ninth.

Lewis Brinson hit a go-ahead tworun homer in the eighth inning as host Miami rallied.

White Sox 10, Royals 7:

Yasmani Grandal went 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs for visiting Chicago. Kansas City’s Salvador Perez homered twice to reach 40 on the season.

Aristides Aquino hit a go-ahead, threerun homer in the third inning for host Cincinnati.

Rockies lefthander Austin Gomber will miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his lower back.
