Montana stuns No. 20 Huskies

-

Montana became the first FCS team to upset a ranked FBS team in five years, beating No. 20 Washington 13-7 in Seattle.

Montana quarterback Cam Humphrey scored on a 4-yard run early in the fourth, and the Grizzlies added a short field goal with 2:54 left to take a six-point lead. Needing a touchdown to avoid the upset, Washington’s Dylan Morris threw an incomplete pass on 4th-and-2 with 1:33 left. Montana was able to run only 21 seconds, and Kevin Macias’ 50-yard field goal try was well short. Washington then reached the Montana 43, but Morris’ pass was intercepted by Marcus Welnel with 31 seconds left.

Anthony Brown scored on a 30-yard quarterback keeper with 2:57 left for the host Ducks in their opener. Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux, mentioned as a possible Heisman candidate this season, injured his left ankle in the first half. He returned after having the ankle taped, but he didn’t play after halftime. Jake Haener (Monte Vista-Danville) threw for 285 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs (1-1).

Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns as the host Bruins improved to 2-0. UCLA outrushed LSU 216-48. Kayshon Boutte had nine catches for 148 yards and three TDs for the Tigers (0-1).

Purdue 30, Oregon State 21:

Jack Plummer threw for 313 yards and two late touchdowns and the Boilermakers’ revamped defense made sure it held up to cap the 500th game played at Ross-Ade Stadium.
