Never has an impressive 41-7 victory ever been so sad for Serra’s football team.

The third-ranked Padres walked off their home field somberly even though they routed No. 6 Bellarmine in West Catholic Athletic League play.

Hassan Mahasin, the Padres’ senior standout running back and top pass catcher, went down with a knee injury in the third quarter. It is believed to be a torn ACL, but an MRI exam will determine the extent of the injury.

The 5-foot-10, 185pound third-year starter was The Chronicle’s Peninsula Player of the Year in the spring. He has a reported 10 college offers, including Colorado, Arizona State, San Jose State and Boise State.

Afterward, coach Patrick Walsh was emotional, trying to put words together.

“We’re not a scoreboard team,” he told reporters afterward. “Thankfully it’s just an ACL. He’ll heal up. He’s a warrior. I told him ACLs are like sprained ankles these days; just take a little longer to recover. He’s going to be a great

college player.”

As far as the game, the Padres dominated from the start and Petelo Gi rushed for touchdowns of 68, 1 and 52 yards. Senior quarterback Dominique Lampkin opened the scoring with a fourthdown 30-yard TD strike to Sione Laulea and added a 33-yard touchdown pass to Mahasin in the second quarter.

Jaden Green tacked on a 29-yard touchdown run for the Padres (4-0, 2-0), who held the Bells (4-1, 1-1) 33 points below their season average. Serra forced five turnovers.

Curtis Jones had an 8-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Kemoeatu Kefu clinched it with a 1-yard TD plunge with three minutes left in the fourth for the host Crusaders (4-1, 1-1 WCAL). In the final minute, Mitty’s Danny Scudero hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Wills Towers, but Riordan recovered the onside

kick.
