L.A. beats Brewers to keep West in play

-

Julio Urias became the Dodgers’ first 20-game winner since Clayton Kershaw in 2014, pitching one-run ball into the seventh inning as host Los Angeles beat the Milwaukee Brewers 8-3 on Saturday night to extend the NL West race to the final day of the regular season.

The Dodgers (105-56) must beat the Brewers on Sunday and hope the Giants lose again to tie for the title. That would send them and Giants to a deciding Game 163 in San Francisco on Monday.

Los Angeles won its 14th consecutive home game, tying a 100-yearold franchise record.

Urias (20-3) gave up one hit, struck out seven and walked two over 61⁄3 innings in his 32nd start of the regular season, becoming the majors’ only 20-game winner this year. The 25-year-old left-hander retired 16 in a row after allowing a double to Eduardo Escobar in the first.

Urias hasn’t lost since June 21 at San Diego.

The Dodgers got a three-run homer from Justin Turner in the first, a two-run blast by A.J. Pollock in the fourth, and a solo shot by Corey Seager in the fifth, giving them 17 homers in their past four games. Max Muncy’s RBI double in the eighth made it 8-1.

Yankees 12, Rays 2: The Rays’ Brandon Lowe hit three home runs and visiting Tampa Bay prevented New York from clinching a playoff spot.

With a chance to pitch his team into the postseason, Yankees starter Jordan Montgomery instead was rocked for a career-worst seven earned runs in 22⁄3 innings.

Like Boston, New York is assured at least a tiebreaker game Monday that could put the team in the playoffs for the fifth straight season.

Red Sox 5, Nationals 3:

Christian Vazquez tripled home the tie-breaking run in the ninth inning as Boston beat host Washington. Tanner Houck pitched five perfect innings, striking out eight, for the Red Sox and left with a 1-0 lead.

Blue Jays 10, Orioles 1:

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 47th home run and host Toronto thumped Baltimore to stay one game back of the Yankees and Red Sox in the wildcard race. George Springer, Teoscar Hernandez, Bo Bichette and Danny Jansen all went deep for Toronto, which leads the majors with a franchiserecord 258 home runs.

Mariners 6, Angels 4:

Mitty alum Mitch Haniger’s two-run single in the bottom of the eighth put Seattle ahead for good and kept the Mariners alive in the AL wild-card race.
