Eugenia “Mimi” Alcazar Gonzalez

January 4, 1926 - September 28, 2021

-

Eugenia Noemi, known to her family and friends as Mimi, was born on January 4, 1926, in Melena del Sur, La Habana, Cuba. She entered eternal rest on September 28, 2021, in San Francisco, California. Mimi never married or had children of her own. Yet when her sister Flora had her third child, Mimi moved in with her to help while Flora and her husband worked. Mimi became a second mother to the children. Because of her love for children, this became a pattern in her life: helping with nieces, nephews and many other children that became part of her extended family. When Mimi left her beloved Cuba, she moved to San Francisco. She worked as a seamstress at Levi Strauss where she created many long-lasting friendships. After retirement, she returned to her first love: helping baby-sit for new generations in the family and several children in the neighborhood.

Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Ramón Alcázar and Margarita González. Also preceding her in death were her sisters Angela, Elena (Julio), Virginia, Clara (Juan), Gloria, Flora (Pedro), Juana, Marta (Joaquin), Ana Luisa, and one brother Carlos, and her nephews Alfredo Wong and Juan Ramon Peña. She is survived by her nephews Angelo Wong and Miguel (Beti) Wong and her nieces Margarita E. Men, Margarita C. (Henry) Villarreal, and Jule Wong. She will be missed by her grandnephews and grandnieces Peter, Aida (Ray), Robert, Maíra, Yaíma, Jacob, Jessica, Josh, Bobby, Daniel, Jack, Flora, Maxwell, Katie, and Madeline.

Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday, October 5th from 4-7PM at Driscoll’s Valencia Street Mortuary, 1465 Valencia St, San Francisco. Guests are advised that they must show proof of COVID vaccination or a recent (within 72 hours) negative COVID test. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11AM on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 3215 Cesar Chavez Street, San Francisco. Interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Colma CA.
