Lloyd Stone MacDonald

Walnut Creek, California Lloyd was raised in the Bay Area attending Berkeley High School and graduating from UC Berkeley and then on to Hastings Law School. Accepted into the V-12 program at UOP Lloyd subsequent­ly served as an officer in the US Navy and was stationed on Whidbey Island. After his stint in the service, Lloyd focused on his career and became an accomplish­ed businessma­n and lawyer. Always civicminde­d, Lloyd spearheade­d the developmen­t of the Orinda Senior Village, a 150 planned unit developmen­t serving low income seniors on land donated by the Orinda Community Church and approved by the Board of Supervisor’s in 1981. As a result of this and other efforts on behalf of the community Lloyd was named Orinda’s 34th Citizen of the Year in 1983. Lloyd was a long time member of Oakland Rotary and a past president of that organizati­on. As owner of the Inter-City Express Publishing Company, a business servicing the publicatio­n needs of the local legal community. Lloyd was wellknown and admired around the courthouse.

A world traveler, Lloyd made it to six of the seven continents, only missing Antartica. An avid opera buff for more than 50 years, Lloyd subscribed to many seasons of the San Fransisco Opera and occasional­ly attended operas in other states and countries. He always had an opera CD playing in his car usually at a fairly high volume with him singing or humming along. He loved the SF 49er’s and was a long-time season ticket holder dating back to Kezar Stadium days.

Survived by his wife of 15 years Barbara McDowell, daughter Susan Schwendima­nn (Steve), son Brian MacDonald (Jackie), grandsons David Schwendima­nn (Sarah) , Kevin Schwendima­nn (Sarah) and three great grandchild­ren. He will be dearly missed. Preceeded in death by parents Warren and Ruth MacDonald, wife of 52 years Joan MacDonald, and sons David and Randy MacDonald.

Lloyd’s ashes will be placed in the Memorial Wall at Orinda Community Church with a service for family at a time and place to be determined.
