JOHN R. MANIS, GIFTED PLASTIC SURGEON,AND RENAISSANCE MAN WITH A KEEN WIT, DEPARTS AT 87.

John Richard Manis was given a choice to study engineering or medicine; he chose medicine and never looked back to the city of Detroit where he was born, May 11th, 1934.

After graduating with Honors from Wayne State University, he served in the US Army as Captain at Ft Benning Georgia. Upon Honorable Discharge, he moved his family to California to pursue his career as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in Greenbrae. He held his practice there for over 40 years.

A son of Armenian parents, he grew up with very little. John believed deeply in helping those with less and made frequent trips to struggling communities for those in need internationally, volunteering his talents as a surgeon. ?His culinary skills were well known and anyone was welcomed to experience them at his table. He and his wife Francine (dec),of 35 years, often hosted good friends, family and acquaintances from all over the world for gatherings and stays at the home they built together in Larkspur.

John was a dear brother of Barbara Larsen of Rochester, Michigan, beloved father to Diana (dec), Cynthia and Kristina Manis, and cherished grandfather of Armen

Manis Fisher.

John went on to his next journey with dignity and peace. It was no surprise to his daughters his final words were that of a joke.

He will be remembered for so many things but ultimately for the thoughtful wisdom he shared with all.

A memorial will be held in Spring of ‘22. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to one of John’s chosen charities: Homeward Bound of Marin, WildCare located in San Rafael, or Hospital De La Familia Foundation.
