Richard P. Barrington

- By mail:

Richard Patrick Barrington Rich, Dad, Husband, Papa, Uncle, Brother, Friend, Bubba, Bear, and Dirtch were some of the names by which he was fondly referred. Richard was an extraordinary man who had a gift of making everyone feel loved, accepted, and special. He always emphasized the importance of being honest, kind, sincere, loyal, hard working, and compassionate. Richard had a witty sense of humor, accepted all people, championed peace through his actions, and constantly affirmed the priority of staying ‘true to your word’. He was a man who found great pleasure in simple things like spending time with family and friends, hanging out in the garage (fondly called 283B), listening to music, gardening, camping, fishing, appreciating nature, feeding birds, and working on his cars. Rich was truly a hippy at heart, always offering a helping hand to anyone he met. He cherished his clan of close friends, nieces, nephews, and other very special family friends to whom he became a father figure.

Richard Barrington was the third child born to Robert and Mary Barrington. Alongside his five siblings - Jim, Linda, Ann, Tom and Joe - he grew up in San Carlos attended St. Charles Elementary then Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo. Growing up, Rich was a shy child who happened to meet his lifelong wife, best friend, and companion Kathleen Kavanaugh in first grade. After high school, Richard married Kathy, and during their 48 years of marriage, they built a home in Redwood City where they raised three children: Stephanie, Mike, and Corey. In the community of Mount Carmel, the Barrington family found and formed lifelong friendships.

Richard worked at Pacific Bell for 30 years and exemplified an honest, dedicated employee. While employed full time and raising a family, he attended San Jose State University, where he earned a B.S. Degree in Accounting.

Telling the truth, working hard, and reminding us to always say I love you to people who mean the most to us were among the many lessons he shared with his children and grandchildren. He was a dedicated, loving, and loyal husband to Kathy, an amazing, caring, and supportive father/grandfather, and an intimate friend to many. Richard lived by two simple mottos: “We do it once, we do it right, and we all do it together” and “Day by Day”. Once retired, Richard devoted his time to family and was passionate about making the world a better place through being a model father, husband, friend, neighbor, and citizen.

His six grandchildren Jessie, Casey, Jack, Michael, Elizabeth, and Maysa brought him much joy and pride, and they equally loved and adored him.

Richard is survived by his three children, Stephanie Roberts (Ken), Michael, and Corey Yribarren (Joe), six grandchildren, sisters Linda Chiochios and Ann Barrington, brothers Joe and Tom Barrington, and his village of friends and family. Please join us to celebrate the exceptional life of Richard Barrington at a Funeral Mass on Saturday October 9, 2021 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Redwood City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you carry on Rich and Kathy’s legacy by showing kindness to someone each day and/or donating to the National MS Society in honor of their lives. https:// mssociety.donordrive.com/ campaign/In-Memory-ofRichard-Barrington
