Goal with 12 seconds left lifts Maple Leafs

Morgan Rielly scored with 12 seconds remaining, and the Toronto Maple Leafs overcame squanderin­g a two-goal, thirdperio­d lead by pulling out a 5-4 victory over the host Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.

Goalie Joseph Woll stopped 23 shots in his NHL debut, and Toronto won for the eighth time in nine outings. John Tavares, Ondrej Kase, Michael Bunting and David Kampf also scored for the Maple Leafs, who never trailed. Toronto is 10-5-1 following a 2-4-1 start.

Buffalo overcame a 4-2 deficit with Jeff Skinner and Rasmus Dahlin scoring 59 seconds apart midway through the third period.

The Sabres were hemmed in their own zone over much of the final two minutes. Toronto worked the puck back to Rielly at the blue line, where his rising shot sailed through a crowd, hit the crossbar and trickled inside the right post.

Senators 6, Penguins 3: Drake Batherson had two goals and two assists, and host Ottawa ended a four-game losing streak. Center Sidney Crosby, defenseman Brian Dumoulin and coach Mike Sullivan are scheduled to rejoin the Penguins in Washington, D.C., on Sunday after exiting the COVID-19 protocol.

Tyler Pitlick recorded a hat trick as visiting Minnesota defeated Seattle. Ryan Hartman contribute­d three assists.

Roope Hintz scored for the second game in a row after no goals in his first 11 games, Anton Khudobin stopped 31 shots and host Dallas beat Philadelph­ia for its first win in regulation this season.

Roman Josi had two goals and two assists to lead Nashville over visiting Arizona.

Mark Scheifele scored 32 seconds into overtime for host Winnipeg. Kyle Connor and Dylan DeMelo also scored for the Jets, who stopped Los Angeles’ seven-game winning streak.

Brayden Point scored a backhand breakaway goal in overtime for host Tampa Bay. Pat Maroon and Victor Hedman scored for the Lightning, who are 5-0-2 over the past seven games.

Brad Marchand scored twice and Jeremy Swayman made 27 saves as Boston ended New Jersey’s three-game winning streak.

Dylan Larkin scored in overtime — his second goal of the night — for host Detroit.

Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider each scored twice as visiting New York won its second straight game.

Brendan Smith scored his first goal of the season with 2:57 left for host Carolina. Brady Skjei and Sebastian Aho also scored for the Hurricanes.
