Judith Goldberg

-

Judith was a native San Franciscan, daughter of the late John J. Goldberg and Lucille M. Tryford. She graduated from Washington High School, attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, and earned a bachelor’s degree, and a Master’s in Nursing from UCSF. Her specialty was in obstetrics, and in the 1960’s she taught Obstetrics at San Jose School of Nursing. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, she felt compelled to join the US Air Force Reserves as a nurse, retiring in 1985 with the rank of Colonel.

After retiring from the Air Force Reserves, Judith worked most of her professional life as a nurse educator. She became the Director of Nursing programs at St. Joseph School of Nursing and later was promoted to Director of St. Joseph Hospital until it closed.

Judith also worked at Stanford Blood Bank. During

her tenure, she became a fan of the Stanford Women’s Basketball team and loved going to all their home games. Judith also was a tax preparer before retiring and moving to Peninsula Del Rey in Daly City. There she was a resident council member and made friends playing Bridge, All’s Wild, Blackjack and Bingo.

Judith loved to travel, loved to cook and entertain friends at home. She took trips to Europe and traveled to many parts of the world with her friends. She said the most interesting place she’d been was Egypt, and walking across the frontier in Cyprus. She also loved Lake Tahoe, where her family owned a cabin and would spend entire summers during her youth. She loved Broadway plays, going to operas, the arts, tennis and playing golf.

Judith will best be remembered as a kind, caring person with a positive outlook on life. She is survived by her loving brother Peter, nephews Bradley (Alicia Levine), Douglas (Shelley) and John Goldberg, and five grandnephews and many loving friends, and all the hearts she touched. The family particularly expresses our gratitude to Jeannine Gibson for her dedicated friendship. At Judith’s request, there were no services.
