Dr. Daniel Litowsky-Ducasa

We mourn the passing of Daniel - a husband, brother, father, grandfather, psychologist.

Daniel was born in Panama to a Panamanian mother and American father. His father’s work took the family all over Latin America and America. Daniel was close to his two siblings, Andy and Lisa, both of Auburn, CA. Andy predeceased Daniel by 5 months.

Daniel went to college in California, majoring in history. He taught history for many years and then returned to graduate school, attending Harvard and completing his doctoral work at Boston University. He became a licensed psychologist in Massachusetts and worked there for many years. He returned to California in 1998 and remained in the Bay Area for the remainder of his life. He deeply enjoyed his work as a therapist and worked with his clients until the end of his life. He and his wife, Nancy Langley, had their therapy practices together with offices in San Francisco and Novato.

Daniel was an avid handball player, playing with various groups throughout his life. He was a tournament chess player and attended many tournaments with his father, Dan Litowsky. Daniel’s empathy for people took many forms. He took his first bicycle ride to raise money for the AIDS epidemic from Boston to New York when he lived on the East Coast. He took the next AIDS ride with his sister Lisa from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Daniel was an academic and taught numerous courses in his field of psychology. He loved to have fun - he started a men’s poker group in San Francisco and a men’s group in Marin. He was well traveled and had seen much of the world. He was an expert skier. Cooking was a great passion and he loved to entertain.

What he loved most in life was his family. He was looking forward to a trip planned in the spring with his wife to see all his children and grandchildren. Sadly, he was unable to make that trip. Instead, his family surrounded him as he died from cancer. He is survived by:

His daughter, Melissa Peters of Worcester MA and her children Tyler, Jason, Joey and Ava

His daughter Tara Litowsky of Flushing NY He was a much loved man and is sorely missed by family and friends.
