Leland Warren Sweeney, Jr.

-

Longtime Resident of San Rafael

Leland (Lee) Warren Sweeney, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on November 18th surrounded by his loving family. Lee was born in Oakland on August 21, 1933, to Louise and Leland W. Sweeney Sr. and was raised in Alameda. After graduating proudly from Alameda High School, serving in the Korean War, and receiving his business degree from San Jose State, Lee married his wife of 63 years, Annie Laurie. Together they raised their three daughters in San Rafael, each of whom graduated from UC Berkeley making Lee a lifelong Bear enthusiast. Lee joined Tab Products in the early 1960’s. He went on to own a Tab Sales franchise in San Francisco with his trusted partners until he retired in 1995.

Lee enjoyed travelling the world including many cruises over the years. He loved watching sports, golf outings with his friends, competing with his Bocce team, actively participating as a member of SIRs Branch 68, worshipping with St. Lukes church and their Men’s Group and serving his community via various volunteer opportunities. Lee was a true Irishman

– a twinkle in his eyes, a joke at hand and always ready for a good dance. He thrived in the presence of his family and friends. He was also a cowboy at heart who read and watched every Western book and movie – he was the ‘Good Guy’ of course.

Lee’s family admired his love of life, wit, honesty, and unconditional love. He beamed when, appropriately, being referred to as “Good looking, handsome, dashing, debonair, Poppa”.

Lee is survived by his wife, Annie Laurie (Lund) Sweeney, daughters Laurie Doolittle (Rob), Trish Markey (Steve) and Shawn Copenhagen (Dan), grandchildren Sara Doolittle Cooke (Gavin), Ross Doolittle (Regan) and Erin Doolittle, Mollie, Jack and Will Markey and Kylie, Anna and Conner Copenhagen and greatgrandson Jett Cooke. He will be greatly missed but lives on in each one of us. His ashes will be spread between his favorite two places - Lake Tahoe and Napili Kai, Maui.

Services will be held at 2pm, Friday January 7, at St. Luke Presbyterian Church with a reception following at Peacock Gap Clubhouse.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Lee’s memory to St. Luke Presbyterian Church, 10 Bayview Drive, San Rafael, CA 94901 or Bridge Hospice Walnut Creek, 3021 Citrus Circle, Suite 230, Walnut Creek, CA 94598. Arrangemetnts entrusted to Keaton’s Mortuary
