USF drops 1-point decision to Grand Canyon

-

USF’s bid to remain unbeaten ended Saturday with a missed shot in the final seconds as the Dons fell to Grand Canyon 49-48 in Phoenix.

The Dons (10-1) had trimmed a seven-point second-half deficit to one when Josh Kunen hit a 3-pointer with 34 seconds remaining. But the Antelopes (10-2) escaped with the victory when USF’s Gabe Stefanini missed the mark on a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

USF finished 3-for-17 from 3-point territory.

“We battled decently late to give ourselves a chance, but overall didn’t compete well enough on the glass and take care of the ball,” USF coach Todd Golden said. “We just didn’t give ourselves a good enough chance to win the game.”

Yauhen Massalski finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Dons.
