Oklahoma State upends No. 1 Baylor

Bryce Thompson scored the game’s final six points and finished with 19 as Oklahoma State beat No. 1 Baylor 61-54 on Saturday, giving the Bears consecutiv­e home losses for the first time in nearly six years.

The Bears are likely to lose their spot at the top of the AP Top 25 early next week. Baylor had spent five consecutiv­e weeks at No. 1, the past three unanimousl­y.

After being down by 17 points in the second half, Baylor trailed 55-54 after LJ Cryer’s two free throws capped a 14-2 run. Thompson made two throws with 26 seconds left, then Bears guard Adam Flagler had turnovers on consecutiv­e possession­s — losing the ball out of bounds on a drive to the basket, then a bad pass. Thompson was fouled making the steal, then made two more free throws before his gamecappin­g breakaway dunk.

The Cowboys (9-7, 2-3) were playing in their third Big 12 road game in five days, traveling more than 3,200 miles.

“It’s been one heck of a week in terms of what we’ve had to face competitio­n-wise and travel-wise,” Oklahoma State coach Mike Boynton said.

Cryer had 18 points for Baylor (15-2, 3-2), which had won a national-best 21 games in a row before its loss Tuesday at home to Texas Tech.

#4 Auburn 80, Mississipp­i 71:

Walker Kessler scored 20 points and the Tigers (16-1, 5-0 SEC) rallied from a 44-38 halftime deficit to win in Oxford, Miss. The Rebels (9-7, 1-3) got 17 points from Tye Fagan.

#6 Arizona 82, Utah 64: Azoulas Tubelis scored 32 points, Christian Koloko added 16 points, and the host Wildcats (14-1, 4-0 Pac-12) dominated the Utes despite missing point guard Kerr Kriisa, out for non-COVID-19 precaution­ary reasons. Both Gach scored 12 points to lead Utah (8-9, 1-6), which has lost five straight.

#8 Duke 88, N.C. State 73: In Durham, N.C., Mark Williams had 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks as the Blue Devils (14-2, 4-1 ACC) dominated inside. Freshman Terquavion Smith scored 19 points for N.C. State (9-9, 2-5).

#9 Kansas 85, West Virginia 59:

David McCormack had 19 points and 15 rebounds and Jalen Wilson added 23 points and eight boards as the host Jayhawks (14-2, 3-1 Big 12) overcame a sluggish first half. The Mountainee­rs fell to 13-3, 2-2. Northweste­rn 64, #10 Michigan

St. 62: Ryan Young had 18 points and eight rebounds, helping the Wildcats (9-6, 2-4 Big Ten) hold on for their first road win over a top-10 team in nearly five years. Malik Hall missed a 3-pointer with four seconds left and Marcus Bingham missed the front end of a one-and-one with 0.7 of a second remaining for the Spartans (14-3, 5-1).

#11 Houston 66, Tulsa 64: Kyler Edwards scored 29 points as the visiting Cougars (15-2, 4-0 American) survived the Golden Hurricane’s late 12-2 run. Jeriah Horne had 24 points for Tulsa (6-9, 0-4)

Arkansas 65, #12 LSU 58: Jaylin Williams hit a tie-breaking 3-pointer with just more than a minute to play as the Razorbacks (12-5, 2-3 SEC) finished on a 17-2 run to get their first road win of the season. Eric Gaines had 14 points for LSU (15-2, 3-2).

#15 Iowa St. 79, #21 Texas 70:

Gabe Kalscheur scored 22 points, with six 3-pointers, to help the host Cyclones (14-3, 2-3 Big 12) hold off a late charge by the Longhorns (13-4, 3-2). Andrew Jones led Texas with 18 points and had seven rebounds.

#17 Xavier 80, Creighton 73: Colby Jones scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half as the Musketeers (13-3, 3-2 Big East) rallied in Cincinnati. Alex O’Connell scored 22 points for Creighton (10-5, 2-2), which couldn’t overcome 21 turnovers. #18 Kentucky 107, #22 Tennessee

79: Freshman TyTy Washington Jr. scored 28 points and Sahvir Wheeler returned from injury to add 21 for the host Wildcats (14-3, 4-1 SEC) on an emotional day that began with news of the death of former Kentucky coach Joe B. Hall at 93. Hall led the program to its fourth national championsh­ip in 1978. Santiago Vescovi had 20 points for Tennessee (11-5, 2-3).

Kansas St. 62, #19 Texas Tech 51:

Nijel Pack scored 14 points and Mark Smith made a key 3-pointer with just over a minute left as the host Wildcats (9-7, 1-4 Big 12) ended a fourgame losing streak. Bryson Williams scored 20 points to lead the Red Raiders (13-4, 3-2), who were playing their fourth game in eight days.

Marquette 73, #20 Seton Hall 72:

Greg Elliott made a tie-breaking free throw with 1.7 seconds left as the host Golden Eagles (12-6, 4-3 Big East) withstood a long second-half drought to edge the Pirates (11-5, 2-4). Mississipp­i St. 78, #24 Alabama

76: Andersson Garcia’s free throw with 3.7 seconds left lifted the Bulldogs (12-4, 3-1 SEC) at home. Jaden Shackelfor­d led the Crimson Tide (11-6, 2-3) with 17 points.

Colorado St. 78, San Jose St. 42:

The visiting Rams (13-1, 3-1 Mountain West) won behind a balanced attack and didn’t trail after the first 93 seconds. Omari Moore led the Spartans (7-7, 0-2) with 15 points.
