James Garvey

-

James Columbanus Garvey, Jim or Colm (as he is known to his family and friends) passed away very peacefully at his home in Sonoma, just as he would have wanted on March 16, 2022. A caring spirit, generous heart and always available to lend a hand, a Parkinson’s diagnosis several years ago challenged Jim to put things aside and be on the receiving end of help. Suzanne Richardson Garvey, his wife of 32 years, carefully navigated the assistance needed without bruising his pride and was right by his side till the end.

Son of the late James Gerald Garvey and Margaret (Brady) Garvey. Born in San Francisco on May 26, 1941, in Noe Valley, Jim attended St. James Boys School and Riordan High School. He joined the SFFD in 1964, retired in 1995 where he is fondly known as Gentleman Jim. With the late Colleen Byrne Garvey, he had three children: Catherine Levitt (Dean), Susan White (the late Terence) and the late James Gerald Garvey.

He is further survived by his two sisters, Ann Stoltz and Patricia Garvey, Suzanne’s children Shawn Fedder (Roxann) and KC Fedder (Shannon), his grandchildren Robert White (Kaitlin), Connor White, Brendan White, Kaley Garvey, Patrick Garvey, Maicie Levitt, Olivia Levitt, Jeffrey Fedder, Bryce Fedder and blessed with 5 great grandchildren, another on the way.

Left with decades of fond and colorful memories, we will celebrate Jim’s life at Noon on April 9, 2022 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, 601 Agua Caliente Road West, Sonoma.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to San Francisco Fire Fighters Toy Program, SFFD Headquarters, 698 – 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, phone #415-7770440.
