Murray Schneider

-

Murray Schneider was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1943, but his heart belonged to San Francisco. Arriving in the City at the age of two, Murray grew up in the Sunset District. He loved baseball, playing on the block with his friends, delivering newspapers (the San Francisco Call Bulletin), and 49ers games at Kezar Stadium. He attended the University of California, Davis, and San Francisco State University, where he received a California Teaching Credential and a Master’s degree in American History. Educating high school students was Murray’s career passion. He taught American History and Civics, including AP History, for 37 years in the Jefferson Union High School District in Daly City, where he ended his career as the Principal of Jefferson High School. For many years he continued to run into former students, many of whom became lifetime devotees, crediting Murray with their continued love of learning. Some followed in his footsteps and became teachers themselves. Equally, Murray loved his retirement. He pursued his love of the parks of San Francisco, working as a weekly volunteer in the Glen Canyon Park. Glen Park became his beloved beat, where he worked as a reporter, photographer, and distribution manager for the Glen Park News from 2007 - 2021, writing moving profiles and news stories that captured the spirit of the village and its inhabitants. Murray’s first love in life was for family. The memories of his parents, Helen and Leo Schneider and his sister Doree, were an ever-present part of his life. He was the best brother ever to his surviving sister,

Maxine Chase. He adored his two daughters, Claire Schneider of Washington, D.C. (Patrick) and Mollie Schneider of Brooklyn, New York (James) and his two grandchildren, Graham and Audrey, of Brooklyn. He was excited to meet his grandson, Perrin Michael May of Washington, D.C., whose anticipated arrival is midMay. Murray was diagnosed with glioblastoma in late December 2021. The cancer spread quickly and relentlessly, reducing him to home confinement and round the clock care. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 53 years, Marcia Schneider, as well as Claire, Mollie, Maxine, cousin Fran Briggs of Minneapolis, and his nephews and nieces. He was buried at Home of Peace Cemetery in Colma, CA on March 17, 2022, following a memorial service at Congregation Emanu-El in San Francisco. Contributions in his name may be made to the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank or a charity of your choice. The family gratefully acknowledges the love and support of friends and family members, his rehabilitative team from ANX Home Healthcare, especially Vernice, Katie, Gerlie, and Brendan, and his supportive care team from Alegre Home Care, especially Roberta, Mauro, Dora, Siale, and Frances.

Rosa (Rosina) passed away peacefully in her home in Redwood City at the age of 86 surrounded by loved ones. Rosa was born in Villa San Sebastiano, Italy to Luciano and Clotilde Valente. She had two sisters and a brother: Vittorina, Osiria and Vincenzo. At 14 she moved to Rome for several years. Rosa married Ottavio Costantini on March 22, 1959 in Villa San Sebastiano and joined him in San Francisco in 1961 where they lived in the Excelsior district. Within 2 years they had two sons, Panfilo and Luciano.

Rosa was a Christian and a true believer, and she knew she would be with the Lord when she passed. Her faith gave her strength and courage. Rosa was a storyteller, a cook, a baker, but most of all she was a mother, a nonna and a kind friend to so many. Rosa was beloved by all those fortunate to have known her. We will miss her very much, but we will always remember her, her stories and her bluntness, and we will smile.

Rosa is survived by her son Panfilo and his wife Tricia and their children, Sarah and Michael, her son Luciano and his wife Paulette and their children, Lianna and Rachele, and her many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the Italian Cemetery Chapel, 540 F Street, Colma, CA.

Her family appreciates donations to Grace Bible Church in Redwood City.
