Timothy Maiden

Timothy Maiden passed away peacefully in the loving care of family in Greenbrae, California on January 26th, 2022 - he was 76. Eldest son of renowned architect Rowan Perkins Maiden (Big Sur’s Nepenthe) and Germaine Lucille Schneider, Tim was born in Oakland, CA on July 27, 1945 and lived between Big Sur and Piedmont, CA during his childhood. Attending Piedmont High School, Tim was a standout athlete in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. Tim lived in Texas, North Carolina, and Wisconsin before settling into Fairfax and San Anselmo, CA later in life. Tim took much pride in his work while pursuing careers at The San Francisco Zoo, Levi Strauss, and the SF Bay Area motion picture industry. Tim followed all manner of sports, regularly attending Cal Basketball and Football games with friends and family. He was a pet lover, an avid reader, and enthusiast of the arts and opera and once sparked a hilarious citywide search for the owner of a lost teddy bear by posting a classified ad in the San Francisco Chronicle - which was eventually spotlighted by legendary columnist Herb Caen. Tim had many friends in many places and always brought smiles to anyone who opened one of his handcrafted fun to read Limerick cards commemorating a birthday or holiday.

He never missed a family gathering or nephew’s childhood sporting event, always keeping fastidious records and notes to share. He was happy to lend a hand, toiling to help rebuild the family home in Fairfax, housesitting, running errands, always providing lifts, always with a smile and ending with a ‘toodle-loo’. He touched many lives and will be missed immensely. Tim was predeceased by sister Romney Maiden Fennell while the status of brother Jonathan Maiden is unknown, having not been seen or heard from in 40 years.

Survived by Niece Rory Fennell, Nephews Forrest, Nathaniel, and Rowan Fennell, and their six children.

A celebration of life and interment of ashes will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California at 10 AM on July 27th, 2022. Special thanks to Tim’s nurse Joy and staff from By the Bay Health.
