Nancy Ann Zaharin

-

Nancy Ann Zaharin (Gray) was born in San Francisco and died in San Rafael with family by her side. Her body was tired but her mind still active until the very end.

Nancy attended Holy Name Elementary and Mercy High School in San Francisco. A natural athlete at Mercy she lettered in 4 sports. As an adult she enjoyed tennis for years, dancing for many more.

Nana had a bright personality and enjoyed socializing immensely. For many years she was an active San Rafael Yacht Club member and ultimately a Native Daughter of the Golden West enjoying a plethora of adventures and activities. Nancy worked for the County of Marin for over 30 years. Though often offered retirement in her 70’s Mom declined. She thrived utilizing her mind, interacting with her office mates and the satisfaction of her career.

Mom had an insatiable curiosity for knowledge, particularly science and medicine. You’d often find her commenting to her doctors about doses offering unsolicited, often prudent, advice. Nancy even pursued a career as a physical therapist years ago, enrolling in college classes as an adult. The entire 4th floor Kaiser staff was delighted by her wit.

Nancy is survived by her brother Perry Corwin (Dee)

Her three children Katia Z. Barrett(Eric), Rob

Zaharin (Kirsten) and Mara Zaharin (Greg). Her beloved grandsons Alexander Weber (Reni), Tazmin Zaharin, & Jackson Barrett. Precious granddaughters Nikita Zaharin (Anthony) & Brenna Barrett. Her favorite cousins Pegi Chesney (John) and Elizabeth (Malcolm), whom she considered sisters. And Rosie, the dog, brought her joy.

Nancy was predeceased by her ex-husband of 12 years Bill Zaharin, Bob Clark her partner for over 20 years and her final love for over 25 years, Michael Anthony. We know she’s kicking up her heels in heaven dancing, smiling and sharing her personality, intelligence and opinions with those who’ve gone before her.

A mass in her honor is scheduled at St. Isabellas Church in Terra Linda on June 3 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make donations should direct them to: By the Bay Health, Hospice of Marin.
