Maureen A. Schoenstei­n died peacefully at home in Napa, CA on January 11, 2023 surrounded by family at the age of 86.

She was born in San Francisco, the eldest of four children of Philip and Mary Cunningham. She attended St. Philip’s School and then St. Vincent’s High School in Vallejo after the family moved to Rodeo, CA. She graduated with an Associates of Arts degree from Contra Costa Junior College. Maureen worked as a secretary at Southern Pacific, San Francisco City College and later in Napa Valley at the Christian Brothers Retreat house and for Rene di Rosa. Maureen met her future husband, Gilbert J. Schoenstei­n, on a Southern Pacific Railroad Ski Club trip in 1956. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversar­y in 2022. Gil passed in August, 2022. They had four children: Kenneth (deceased 1981), Janet Kosewic, Gilbert (deceased 2004), Christian (Yuko Kimura) and two granddaugh­ters, Kelly and Natsu Schoenstei­n. Also survived by brothers Jerry (Joanne) Cunningham and Kenneth (Miki) Cunningham and sister Kathy Salkin (Gerry

Van Tassel), and many nieces and nephews.

Maureen loved entertaini­ng, big family gatherings & picnics and sharing stories. She was an outdoor enthusiast who loved skiing, picnicking, reading, and painting. She was active in her children’s grammar school parent’s club and also enjoyed volunteeri­ng and helping out in Napa at St. Apollinari­s and St. John the Baptist.

Friends are invited to attend a funeral service Friday, February 10, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Apollinari­s Church, 3700 Lassen St, Napa, CA 94558.
