January 7, 1930 - January 8, 2023
Dorothea (Dottie) Mae Romeo, 93, passed away on Sunday January 8 at her home in Oakmont of El Dorado Hills, CA, surrounded by her loving husband and other family members.
Dottie was born in Springboro, Pennsylvania on January 7, 1930, the youngest and ninth child of Florence (Kough) and Broie Sperry. She was an excellent student and served as valedictorian of her class at Springboro High School. Dottie earned an associate’s degree in medical technology at Wheaton College in Illinois. She then did an internship at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA, where she met her future husband, Carmen Anthony Romeo.
Carmen and Dottie married on August 11, 1951 and moved to Philadelphia, where she worked as a medical technologist at Philadelphia General Hospital while Carmen attended medical school at Hahnemann Medical College. They soon started a family and raised six children together, including Dan, Jim and Joe, born in Philadelphia, PA; Patti, born in Madison, WI; and Jeff and Tom, born in San Francisco, CA. Carmen and Dottie settled in Millbrae, CA in 1961, where they raised their family and lived for almost sixty years before moving to Oakmont of El Dorado Hills in 2019.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Dottie was very proud to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, after conducting extensive ancestral research to demonstrate her qualifications for membership. She was a long-time volunteer at Catholic Charities, loved crossword puzzles, and enjoyed traveling the world, visiting over 60 countries with Carmen after their children were grown.
Dottie is survived by her husband, Dr. Carmen A. Romeo, MD and their six children: Daniel (Sylvia), James, Joseph, Patricia (Eric) Lucchesi, Jeffrey (Barbara), and Thomas (Lisa); ten grandchildren: Lindsay (Paul) Iribarren, Christopher (Hillary) Lucchesi, Joey (Ashley) Lucchesi, Ryan, Peter, Isabella, Juliana, Savanna, and Carmine Romeo, and Anthony Marling; as well as five great-grand-children: August, Giana, and Mallory Iribarren and Layla and Serafina Lucchesi.
A private memorial service will be held at the Miller Funeral Home in Folsom, CA.
