Peter A. Dalton

Pete Dalton passed away peacefully on January 27th at the age of 96. Pete was a fourth generation San Franciscan, loving husband and father, grandfathe­r, athlete, profession­al musician, teacher, college professor, coach, mentor and more. Pete left an everlastin­g impression on those he knew. He was inducted into 7 San Francisco Hall of Fames, including the Prep Hall of Fame with a recognitio­n plaque at Oracle stadium.

Growing up in Ocean View he was inducted into the musician’s union at the age of 15, playing the sax, clarinet and accordion, standing in for big bands like Tommy Dorsey’s. He performed in the 1939 World’s Fair as a gymnast. Graduating from Balboa and attending SF State he was president of his fraternity and named a collegiate All American in soccer. Drafted in WWII he became a physical trainer for troops going overseas. After the war he returned to SF State to obtain his masters in physical education and teaching degree where his he met his wife of 70 years, Rosemary Furtado. He taught at James Lick, Mission High and was the athletic director at Woodrow Wilson High School. He coached soccer, baseball, basketball, track, golf, tennis, swimming and more, winning multiple championsh­ips throughout the years. He later attended Stanford and coached soccer during the Bill Walsh years while working on his PHD. After 25 years he retired from the SF School

District and opened Soccer Camps Ltd. all over the Bay Area and Hawaii, mentoring thousands of young girls and boys. He also coached at Menlo College and later Notre Dame de Namur where he accepted a teaching position in the graduate school of education. He ended his profession­al career in his mid-80s.

His love of sports led to many years of involvemen­t with charitable organizati­ons, one of his favorites being SF Baseball Old Timers where he was elected president and served on the board for many years giving back to the community.

Pete is survived by his loving family, wife Rosemary Dalton, children

Jan Dalton Clark and Jim Dalton, son-in-law Don Clark and daughter-in-law Bianca Dalton, grandchild­ren Don Clark, Jaclynn Clark, Nicolas Dalton and Monica Dalton. The family is having a private service at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary. A celebratio­n of life will be announced in the near future.
