Richard Crescens Harrison died peacefully at his home in San Francisco on December 21st, 2022, at the age of 93. We are saddened by his passing yet grateful for the many years we were blessed to spend in his presence. He was a decent, humble and respected man, a fourth generation and lifelong San Franciscan.

Born on April 15th, 1929, Dick Harrison attended Star of the Sea grammar school, Saint Ignatius High School (Class of 1947), and the University of San Francisco. Following his overseas service in the U.S. Air Force, he entered San Francisco’s steamship industry, where he rose to the executive ranks at Bakke Steamship, Trans-American Steamship, and Japan Line. During this golden age for ocean shipping, Dick was a frequent business traveler to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Following his 25-year career in ocean shipping, together with his wife, Carol, Dick co-founded the Adda Clevenger Junior Preparatory and Theater School for Children. Until 1999, when the school moved to its current site in San Francisco’s Mission District, Dick Harrison was a daily fixture at the school, running back-office operations and directing drop-off and pick-up traffic.

In addition to organizing many reunions, gatherings, and lunches over the years for his SI Class of ‘47, Dick had lifelong interests in cooking, international relations, business, religion, sports, geography, and the history of his native San Francisco.

Richard C. Harrison was born in San Francisco’s Richmond District, St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, the son of the late Agnes Genevieve and James Gregory Harrison; younger brother of the late James G. Harrison II, and older brother of Robert J. Harrison II, Jeremy T. Harrison, and Anthony L. Harrison; devoted husband of 59 years of Carol L. Harrison; loving father of Benjamin A. Harrison, Angela K. Harrison, Rebecca L. HarrisonMoore; most supportive and loving grandfather to Samantha, James, Haven, Amaris, Eliana; doting greatgrandfather of Henry J. Harrison and Benjamin W. Shore, and uncle of James, Amelia, Rosheen, Jeremy, Alexandra, Nadya, Rachel, Robert, Peter, Paul, Philip and John Harrison.

A mass will be held at 2pm, Sunday, March 19, 2023 at St. Thomas Apostle Church, 3801 Balboa Street, San Francisco 94121. Additional details are available at https://www.forevermissed. com/richard-c-harrison
