Judy Tisdale
April 19, 1941 - December 18, 2023
Judy McKanna Tisdale, a fourth generation Californian and a passionate San Franciscan, died on December 18, 2023, after a long battle with cognitive decline. Born in Hollywood on April 19, 1941, she graduated from Stanford University where she majored in English and minored in art history. She parlayed her work ethic and joy in helping people into a successful career as a Human Resources executive, who loved working with both leaders and teams to develop and maximize their impact on the business. At ROLM, she was in on the birth of Silicon Valley; at Career
Services for Women in Palo Alto, she helped foster the women’s movement; and her various posts at Levi Strauss led to overseas postings in Florence and Brussels. She was widely traveled: trips to Vietnam, Spain and Morocco were favorites. Over her lifetime, she built a social network that was as both broad as it was deep - a perfect reflection of her unmatched blend of intellect, curiosity and empathy. Although she was born and died in Hollywood, it was San Francisco that charmed her for the majority of her adult life - attending the symphony, sampling new restaurants, going to events at the Commonwealth Club, and encouraging her friends to use public transportation. Her survivors include her daughter, Jessica (Edwin Gray) and son, Tony (Kathryn); four grandchildren,
William, Elizabeth, Isaiah and Nathaniel; her sister, Carol Mitchell; niece, Jennifer; and nephew, George (Regina). All will miss her wit, her support, and her cooking.
