Terrance L. Sedik, 76, of San Francisco, Calif., and Highland Park, Ill., died December 31, 2023, at home in California. Born September 20, 1947, in Hammond, Ind., he was the son of Emil and Florence Ruth (Clark) Sedik. He died after a two-and-one-half-year battle with cancer.

Terry attended Illinois State University on a football scholarshi­p and graduated with degrees in Geography and Geology. His first planning job out of ISU was at the McLean County Regional Planning Commission in Bloomingto­n, Ill., where he interned. He served as a community planner in Illinois for several years, including the DuPage County Regional Planning Commission and the Lake County Department of Planning, Zoning, and Environmen­tal Quality. He and his family moved to California in 1980, where he eventually became the Director of the Economic and Community Developmen­t Department. In addition to plan preparatio­n, he was responsibl­e for zoning and building code developmen­t and compliance with environmen­tal regulation­s. He worked actively with developers to bring Pacific Plaza (including Cinemark Theaters), City Toyota, In-n-Out Burger, and Krispy Kreme Donuts, Landmark Mixed Use Developmen­ts, and a groundbrea­king new ordinance to permit second home units on one’s property. When he retired, he joined a good friend in a private action to distribute 50 sandwiches every few days to people living on the streets of San Francisco. Eventually, Terry moved the distributi­on to the Gubbio Project at St.

John the Evangelist Church, where people could rest quietly in the pews during the day. He volunteere­d there several days a week until the pandemic.

Terry is survived by three brothers; three children; five grandchild­ren; several nephews; and his former wife, Carole Preti. In addition to his parents, he was predecease­d by his siblings, Richard Reglin and Shirley Scanlon (Reglin). His brothers are Michael Keith Sedik (late Kathy), Robert Victor Sedik (Xiu), and Joseph Sedik (Stephanie). His children are Andrew Terrance Sedik (Cindie), Matthew Clark Sedik (Sharon), and Sarah Lucretia McIntosh. His grandchild­ren are Milena Irene, Nathan Andre, Maili Clare, Carter Julian, and Eme Jolie.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Daly City Public Library Associates, The Gubbio Project, or the American Cancer Society.

A public memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 1-3 p.m., at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 West Lake Avenue, Daly City, Calif.
