Karen Marie Sullivan

Karen peacefully joined her parents in heaven after a lengthy battle with cancer. A native of San Francisco, she spent happy childhood years in Broadmoor Village, later returning to San Francisco to live a few doors away from her cherished grandmother. She attended Ben Franklin Junior High and graduated from Westmoor High in Daly City, the class of ‘78.

Karen was truly one of a kind: gentle, unconventional and with a fery zest for life. She found joy in many things including: helping to raise her niece & nephews; spending time near the water in Capitola and Sausalito; volunteering at UCSF Medical Center; and caring for her little white dog, along with lots of canaries. From her bright red minivan to her dance exhibitions on social media, Karen was joyful, playful and a bit of a ham! She loved to garden and sit outside soaking up the sun; she knew everyone in the neighborhood. Her true love, the place that brought her solace, was by the water where she said “heaven and earth meet on the water.”

Nothing meant more to Karen than her family and she took pride in her Sicilian and Irish heritage. Karen is survived by her adoring brother, Kevin; niece, Jennifer; nephews, Jonathan and Justin; great nephews:

Frankie, Oliver, and Leo; and great niece, Carrie. She also leaves behind her good friend Cristina, Godmother Pat, and many loving cousins. Not to mention her dog Chance who was always by her side. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Tressa and Ralph, grandparents, aunts & uncles, and many other extended family members. Viewing is scheduled at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City on Wednesday, April 17th from 4-8 pm with a fnal viewing on Thursday, April 18th, from 9:15 am to 10:15 am followed by a 11:00 Funeral Mass at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 451 Eucalyptus Dr. San Francisco. Entombment to follow at 12:30 pm, Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma.
