Jean Allan Florence Babka passed away peacefully at her home in Danville, Ca on March 23, 2024. She was 102. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Babka.

Jean was born and raised in the Bayview district in San Francisco, and had many tales to tell. Growing up she lived across the street from a school and a church and said the bells were always clanging for something. She could remember when her father would ride his horse to work through the City streets to the family meat packing business, James Allan and Sons. When she was young she played the church piano, the organ and sang in the choir. She graduated from Lux School for Industrial Training for Girls. She walked across the Golden Gate Bridge the day it opened. She attended the World’s Fair on Treasure Island. She helped the WWII effort by working in intelligence by day and dancing and winning swing dance competitions by night. She truly experienced history in the making during her lifetime.

She loved flowers, nature and the moon. She hiked well into her golden years and attributed hiking and laughter to her longevity.

She is survived by, and will be remembered by, her daughters Laurie and Hedy, her granddaughter Rhianna, her daughter in-law Kathy, and her great grandchildren Phoebe and Theia.

We will remember her love of hosting a party, participating in family traditions, her laughter, her taste for chocolate milkshakes and the ability to always have room for dessert.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on April 27, 2024. If you are interested in attending please send an email to ruggedscott98@gmail.com with the number of people wishing to attend and details will follow.
