Saints: Wiretap claim absurd

-

While state police and the FBI started a wiretapping probe into the Saints and general manager Mickey Loomis, assistant head coach Joe Vitt called allegations that Loomis had his Superdome booth wired so he could listen to opposing coaches “ludicrous.”

“It’s absolutely ludicrous. It’s impossible,” Vitt said Tuesday. “I’ve never heard of it before. That’s something from ‘Star Wars.’ When I first heard something about it being a wiretap, I thought they were talking about Sammy ‘the Bull’ Gravano or something. I didn’t even know what they were talking about. …”

“And then to associate Mickey with that? That’s irresponsible. It’s a shame.”

Vitt met with reporters for the first time since being appointed to serve in head coach Sean Payton’s place during Payton’s season-long suspension in connection with the NFL’S bounty investigation of New Orleans. Vitt will have to serve a six-game suspension for his role in the cash-for-big hits system the Saints ran from 2009 through ’11, and Loomis will miss eight games. Kenny Williams on Kyle: White Sox general manager Kenny Williams said before his team’s game against the A’s at the Coliseum that he’s proud of how his son Kyle has conducted himself after last season’s rough ending and happy to hear the 49ers plan to give him a fresh start.

Kyle Williams lost two fumbles in the 49ers’ 20-17 overtime loss to the Giants in the NFC Championship Game. The younger Williams immediately took responsibility for the mistakes.

“I’m proud of him. That’s what he’s supposed to do, That’s what you have to do,” Kenny Williams said. “He signed up for the gig. He knows what comes with it.”

Of 49ers general manager Trent Baalke’s declaration that he will give Kyle Williams a fresh start as a receiver and return man, Kenny Williams said, “They should (give him a shot). I’d like him to stay here because I love what they have going on down there and the culture.”
