Harvin trade is official

-

The New York Jets announced Saturday they have acquired wide receiver Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks for a conditional draft pick, conforming a trade that was reported Friday.

General manager John Idzik called Harvin a “dynamic player who has been productive on offense and special teams.”

The 1-6 Jets get a star from last season’s Super Bowl but a player who is injury prone.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider noted Harvin’s contributions to the Super Bowl championship and called the decision to trade him “extremely difficult. ... We are constantly evaluating our team and believe at this time that this is in our best interest to move the team forward.”

Harvin, 26, has played in 60 games with only 47 career starts since being a first-round pick by Minnesota in 2009. He was traded to the Seahawks in 2013. He appeared in just one regular-season game in 2013 because of hip surgery.

But Harvin ran back the second-half kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown in Seattle’s 43-8 rout of Denver in the Super Bowl.

The Seahawks placed defensive end Cassius Marsh on injured reserve and signed tight end RaShaun Allen and safety Steven Terrell from the practice squad. Marsh broke a bone in his foot during practice Wednesday. Briefly: The Saints cut tight end Tom Crabtree, who was signed after a Week 5 shoulder injury to Jimmy Graham but never played in a game. ... The Panthers declared four players out of Sunday’s game at Green Bay: running back Fozzy Whittaker, cornerback Bene Benwikere, linebacker Chase Blackburn and guard Amini Silatolu. ... The Titans promoted tight end Brett Brackett from the practice squad and placed tight end Craig Stevens (torn quadriceps) on injured reserve.
