For Prop. A: Bonds for transit improvements

- By Ed Lee and Katy Tang Ed Lee is the mayor of San Francisco. Katy Tang is a member of the Board of Supervisors.

San Francisco’s transportation infrastructure impacts everyone’s quality of life. Ours is aging and in need of crucial upgrades. That’s why passing Proposition A is a top priority of ours. Smart investments will make getting around the city safer and more efficient for everyone. These improvements won’t raise taxes because new bonds will be issued only as old ones expire.

Prop. A pedestrian safety improvements include raised crosswalks and audible countdown signals. These improvements will help bring San Francisco closer to Vision Zero — our city’s goal to eliminate pedestrian fatalities by 2024.

Many electrical wires and tracks that move our buses and trains are worn out. Prop. A will fund replacements to reduce breakdowns and keep Muni moving.

Prop. A will fund state-of-the-art traffic signals that respond to changing traffic patterns, improving traffic flow and reducing congestion. It will help keep cars and bicycles separated for improved safety.

Wider sidewalks and Muni boarding islands will make buses and trains safer and more accessible.

Prop. A bonds have tightly restricted uses. Citizen oversight and independent audits ensure funds are spent as required by law. Additionally, the Board of Supervisors must approve each project to ensure funds are spent as voters intended.

Supporters include all 11 members of the Board of Supervisors, the Sierra Club, business and labor, and advocates for pedestrian safety and access for people with disabilities and a more reliable Muni. Join us — vote Yes on A.
