LAUREN HAUGH & AUZY FREED

- — Maghan McDowell, mmcdowell@sfchronicle.com

STYLE Beachy comfort and casual brights.

BACKSTORY As product manager (Haugh) and product developer (Freed) at San Francisco’s Chubbies Shorts, the personal style and sense of humor of these two comes in handy when designing “the raddest shorts on the planet.” When Haugh — also known as first lady and fun commissioner — started, her commitment to “No Pants November” saw the Los Gatos native wearing men’s shorts (and a blanket) at work. Now, when she’s not wearing workout clothes or jeans, she sports these one-of-a-kind “Miss Merica’s” made especially for her.

Similarly, Freed’s “anti 9-to-5” aesthetic is informed by his San Diego roots, so it’s no compromise that he wears Chubbies shorts to work every day, rain or shine. He says he relishes that moment when he is “waiting for the bus in a herd of suits and ties,” wearing a Hawaiian shirt and Chubbies. “It makes me feel like I’m making the right choices in life,” Freed says. Another choice he helped make? Producing Chubbies’ first shirt — a Hawaiian (naturally) that will be ready for spring in 12

beach-ready prints.
