Virginia Jean Miller Hartinger

Virginia (Ginny) Miller, born October 10, 1925, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 4, 2015 at her home in Cupertino, California. She was 89 years old.

Virginia was a 3rd generation California­n born in San Jose to Jacob and Evadne Miller. She attended Willow Glen Elementary, Los Gatos High School, and graduated from San Jose State University where she served as President of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She married Arthur W. Hartinger in 1954 and raised three children, Jacob, Elizabeth, and Arthur, eventually settling in Saratoga. She was active in many local community organizati­ons including P.E.O., Saratoga Foothill Club and the Montalvo Arts Center.

Virginia was a loving and supportive mother and grandmothe­r. She was a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader and attended many of her grandchild­ren’s performanc­es, games and school open houses. She loved to travel and take extended trips all over the globe. She has been seen touching the tail of a rhinoceros in Africa, lounging on a barge in the South of France and hiking in the Swiss Alps. She discovered her artistic talent in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico learning to sculpt. She was a life-long San Francisco Giants fan and went to a 1962 World Series game alone because there was only one ticket. She enjoyed attending the symphony, cooking all types of cuisine and fishing in the Sierras.

Virginia is pre-deceased by her husband of 48 years, Arthur and survived by her three children, and seven grandchild­ren: Jacob (Amy) Hartinger of Palo Alto, and their three children, Sam, Colman and Bryn; Elizabeth (Peter) Marks of Napa, and their two children Adrienne and Christophe­r; and Art (Susan) Hartinger of Berkeley, and their two girls, Claire and Elise. She is also survived by her sister, Margery Weller, of San Rafael and 5 nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all.

A memorial service and celebratio­n of her life will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, in Saratoga on March 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to P.E.O.
