Seventh-seeded Rafael Nadal, coming off a victory on clay at Hamburg two weeks ago, got his tournament started with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over Sergiy Stakhovsky.

Second-seeded Andy Murray beat Tommy Robredo 6-4, 7-5 in a rain-delayed match that started Tuesday night.

At the WTA Tour’s Rogers Cup in Toronto, Ukrainian qualifier Lesia Tsurenko upset Wimbledon finalist Garbine Muguruza 7-5, 6-1.

Muguruza, 21, has risen to No. 9 after her run to the final at Wimbledon, where she lost to Serena Williams.

Hahn was a co-medalist of the stroke-play rounds. Ha survived a playoff Wednesday morning to reach match play. Ha, of Plano, Texas, won four straight holes on the front nine to take a 4-up lead. Hahn twice cut the margin to three holes before falling with a halve on the 15th.

Also, Elizabeth Wang of San Marino (Los Angeles County) beat Stanford senior Mariah Stackhouse 1 up. Diving: Olympian Kristian Ipsen, a De La Salle High and Stanford alum, won the men’s 3-meter title and Florida teenager Brooke Schultz topped the women’s 1-meter field at the USA Diving national championships in Orlando. Basketball: Frankie Ferrari, who played for Riordan and Burlingame high schools and USF, had 32 points and Angelo Caloiaro had 29 to lead South Bay to a 105-104 overtime win over Bay Pride in the S.F. Bay Area Pro-Am championship series, which is tied 1-1. The deciding game is at 8 p.m. Friday at Kezar Pavilion.
