No. 21 Stanford (2-1, 1-0 Pac-12) at Oregon State (2-1, 0-0)

- — Tom FitzGerald

Where: Corvallis, Ore. When: 7 p.m. Friday TV/Radio: FS1/1050

Story lines: Stanford tries to keep the momentum of the USC win going against a team it has beaten five straight times. But the unsure status of Kevin Hogan and the speed of the Beavers could make this a “trap game” for the Cardinal.

Injuries: Oregon State — RB Chris Brown, DL Jalen Grimble, LB David Henry, OL Will Hopkins and DL Ali’i Robins are out. TE Caleb Smith and DL Kalani Vakameilalo are questionable. LB Manase Hungalu is probable. (All injuries undisclosed.) Stanford — LB Kevin Anderson (undisclosed) is doubtful, and QB Kevin Hogan (ankle) is questionable.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

If Hogan can’t play, the Beavers no doubt will try to tee off against his inexperienced replacement, whether it’s Keller Chryst or Ryan Burns. If Hogan can play, his running might be limited, robbing the Cardinal of an important weapon.

Michigan rushed for 225 yards against the Beavers, who by their staff’s count had 22 missed tackles. Stanford always tries to batter opponents with a power running game.

Under former Utah defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake, the Beavers have switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4 base defense but are using a variety of fronts and blitzes to keep opponents off balance. Against Weber State and San Jose State, OSU allowed just one third-down conversion in 26 tries.
