What’s on TV this weekend

- — David Wiegand

FRIDAY

Margaret Cho, above, gets her own special on Showtime tonight at 9. “Margaret Cho:

PsyCHO” is also the title of her touring show, which comes to the Castro Theatre on Oct. 15. The 27th season of “The

Amazing Race” leaves the starting gate at 8 p.m. on CBS. And the season premiere of

Tim Allen’s comedy “Last Man Standing” airs at 8 on ABC. The sixth season of “Hawaii

Five-O” premieres on CBS at 9 p.m., the same time as the seventh season of “Shark

Tank” swims into view on ABC. The sixth season of “Bluebloods” premieres at 10 p.m. on CBS.

SATURDAY

The History Channel takes a peek into “Leonardo da Vinci’s Book of Secrets,” a two-hour special at 3 p.m.

Reelz has murder in mind tonight, with the premiere of the series “Fame Kills ” at 8 p.m., followed by another new series, “Behind the Screams” at 9.

Brian Regan gets a Comedy Central special at 9 p.m. Suge Knight is the subject of a Showtime documentary spe--

cial at 9 p.m. called “American Dream/American Knightmare.”

The first season of “America’s Next Weatherman” ends at 11 p.m. on TBS.

SUNDAY

The battle for Sunday night commences with the season premiere of

“Once Upon a Time ” at 8 on ABC, followed by its two new dramas, “Blood

and Oil ” at 9 and “Quantico” at 10. The first is a

“Dallas”-like nighttime soap set in North Dakota with Don Johnson and

Chace Crawford, the second is a whip-smart thriller about FBI trainees who have a lot of secrets, some of them lethal. “Bob’s Burgers” launches its sixth season at 7:30 on Fox, followed by the 27th season of “The Simpsons ” at 8,

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine ”at 8:30, “Family Guy ” at 9 and “Last Man on Earth” at 9:30, all season premieres.

CBS says hello to “Sixty

Minutes,” kicking off its 48th season with a 90-minute show at 7:30 p.m., and then says goodbye and thanks for the

ratings to “CSI: Crime

Scene Investigation” with a two-hour series finale at 9 p.m. Don’t worry, though: The newer member of the franchise, “CSI:

Cyber” will settle into the 10 p.m. berth on Oct. 4. Former President Jimmy Carter guests on the season premiere of “Super Soul Sunday ” at 7 p.m. on OWN.

If all of that doesn’t tempt you, or even if it does, don’t miss the first episodes of “Indian Summers ”on PBS at 9 p.m. It’s a terrific melodrama with brains set in India in 1932 as the subcontinent was teeming with political unrest that would eventually lead to its independence from Britain in 1947. All of that is just too much for the British, though, who have decamped to the foothills of the Himalayas to escape the brutality of summer. There’s murder, blackmail, a whole lot of sex, alcoholism and, most of all, very smart but dramatically potent commentary on prejudice — by the British toward Indians, of course, but also among the rigid caste system of Indians themselves. I binge-watched the last five episodes and by the time you get to them, you’ll wish you could as well. Find my review on E1. The season finales of “Ray Donovan” and “Masters of Sex ” air at 9 and 10 p.m., respectively, on Showtime.
