Refugee crisis

European government­s have pushed through a deal to share 120,000 refugees between most countries on the continent in a divisive compromise that sparked fury within parts of central Europe and disappoint­ment among refugee agencies over what they say is a token response to Europe’s biggest migration crisis since World War II. After a monthslong battle that the United Nations warned was a threat to European unity, the continent’s interior ministers finally agreed Tuesday to the principle of sharing refugees between member states.

Volkswagen scandal

Volkswagen on Tuesday admitted that 11 million of its cars worldwide had been designed to cheat engine emissions tests, in a growing scandal that has loaded pressure on the automobile industry. Campaigner­s have long said that in real-life conditions, engine emissions far exceed the data calculated by lab tests.
