Burbank is just 30 miles from LAX, but don’t fly there (unless you’re a masochist). United and Southwest Airlines have direct, one-hour flights from San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland to Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport.

When retro retail therapy calls, Magnolia Boulevard between Hollywood Way and Buena Vista Street is lined with secondhand boutiques and antique stores.
