GETTING THERE

Zurich is the best gateway for Zermatt. You can catch a train right from the airport; it takes about 3½ hours, with one or two changes, to reach Zermatt. One-way fare is 63 Swiss francs ($64.70). If you’ve got a rental car, you can drive to Tasch, the last town before Zermatt. You leave your car there and ride the train the rest of the way.

GETTING AROUND

Buying individual tickets to the many gondolas and cog railways in Zermatt can add up. Multiday passes, in a variety of configurations, can bring the price down. www.zermatt.ch
