Utah State pulls upset on No. 21 Boise State

Marwin Evans returned an intercepti­on 90 yards for a touchdown as time expired before halftime, and host Utah State turned Boise State’s seven first-half turnovers into 35 points in the Aggies’ 52-26 victory over the No. 21 Broncos on Friday night.

The Aggies (4-2, 3-0 Mountain West) snapped a 12-game losing streak against Boise State that dated 18 years. The 52 points are the most Boise State has ever allowed as a ranked team.

The Broncos (5-2, 2-1) served up four fumbles and three intercepti­ons in the first half.

Utah State’s Kent Meyers threw for 157 yards and a career-high three touchdowns and added 63 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Boise State’s Brett Rypien, nephew of former NFL quarterbac­k Mark Rypien, threw for 299 yards with three intercepti­ons. #24 Houston 42, Tulane 7: Greg Ward Jr. ran for three touchdowns and threw a scoring pass for the visiting Cougars (6-0, 3-0 American Athletic), who were playing as a ranked team for the first time since 2011. It was their fourth win by at least 21 points this season, and they did so without three injured starting offensive linemen. Tulane (2-4, 1-2) had 262 total yards and punted 11 times. Briefly: North Carolina suspended cornerback­s M.J. Stewart and Mike Hughes for a violation of team rules after they face misdemeano­r assault charges tied to an altercatio­n near the campus earlier this month. ... South Florida backup cornerback Lamar Robbins became the second USF player arrested in connection with a gunfire incident on campus early Sunday morning. He remained in jail on a $15,500 bond and was suspended from team activities.
