Kian Joe Lie

Dr. Kian Joe Lie was born in Sukabumi, Indonesia on November 25, 1916 and passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, October 12, 2015.

He was Professor of Parasitolo­gy and Tropical Medicine at the University of Indonesia, Universite­it van Leiden in The Netherland­s, and The University of California San Francisco. He lived a successful and exhilarati­ng life of research and scientific discovery in medicine, a passion which he shared with his loving wife and confidant, Dr. Luan Eng Lie-Injo.

After retirement and the passing of his wife, Kian Joe moved to Sunnyvale California to live next door to his sister Corrie Lie. He lived there until his passing, enjoying the daily company of Corrie, and a life filled with gardening and the visits of many of his friends and relatives.

He is survived by his two sons, John Lie and wife Melania Budiman, and Tony Lie and wife Ronda Lie, grandchild­ren Natasha Lie, Ethan Lie, Nathan Lie, and Eric Lie. He is also survived by his very close sister, Corrie, his brother Kian Sun and many nephews and nieces, their children and grand children.

Viewing and Celebratio­n of Life will be held at Skylawn Funeral Home, Highway 92 and Skyline Blvd., San Mateo, CA on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 starting at 9:00AM. Followed by the burial at noon. Reception will follow after the burial.
