December 19, 1927 - October 7, 2015

Iris Horton Farr passed peacefully at home October 7, 2015 in Aptos, California. She was born December 19, 1927 in Oakland, California, the only child of Harold Merritt Horton and Lottie Beer Horton. Iris was raised all over the United States as her father was a petroleum geologist, living in the Midwest and Texas as a child. Later, the family moved to Eureka, where she spent her high school years near her first cousins, Stanley “Neb” Roscoe and Jim Roscoe whom she regarded as brothers. Iris graduated from Eureka High School in 1945. She went to college at UC Berkeley and graduated with a BA in Business Administration in 1949. She was an Alpha Delta Pi and it was at Cal that she met her future husband, Jack Farr. They married in 1950 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary September 10th of this year. Jack was the greatest love of her life.

Iris and Jack had four children together whom they raised in the Greenmeadow neighborhood in Palo Alto, California. In 1968, Iris and Jack co-founded Farr-West Fashions, a luxury lingerie company. Iris was very proud of the company which was in business for 45 years, both for the quality of the product and for the jobs provided to so many individuals who were like family to her.

Iris was also an avid musician. She played piano for most of her life and she sang in the Cabrillo Symphonic Chorus for 30 years, in Aptos. She loved museums, travel, Cal Bears and chocolate.

Iris is survived by her husband Jack; her children, Lindsey Farr Roscoe (and son-in-law Tom Bonura), Jennifer Farr, John Farr (and daughter-in-law Anne McCormack Farr), Brooke Farr White, stepson Chuck Farr; eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
